Asking off work at a new job?

I just started my new job at the Dollar Tree yesterday. Prom is in 2 weeks. I've already bought a dress, shoes, ticket, made plans and reservations. Is it ok to ask off for that one day, considering that it is for prom? I'm really worried that I will look bad.

Plus, I have to ask off for graduation in June, summer orientation for college in June (2 days), and a major discovery day in July (also 2 days.)

Since all of these things are required, is that ok? Mainly, I'm worried about prom at this point.

Asking off work at a new job?
you should have already mentioned all these dates to your employer, since you didn't you need to do so now. you need to offer to do what ever you can to help cover other shifts so it won't be such an inconvenience for your days needed. employers who hire young adults and teens understand you have a lot going on in your life all they ask is you be honest and do all you can to assist in covering these situations. employers expect and deserve as much advance notice as possible so the business can run smoothly. communicate your needs with management immediately. be prepared to do what you can to cover days for those who will have to cover for you. have a safe prom.
Reply:why didn't you tell them about the time off when you interviewed????

seems decietful now........................................
Reply:look at the roster for the day of the prom, and find someone with a similar job function and ask them nicely if they could cover your shift on that day.

if they agree, go to your boss and say "this person has agreed to cover my shift on this date, because its my prom night"

the manager wont really care as long as they have the right amount of staff on that shift, and you've taken care of the situation, instead of forcing them to fill the hole..

also, with longer term things like you discussed, get in now and say you will be unavailable for these dates. they wont have done the roster yet, and can accommodate your request.

Don't ask to "swap" a shift with someone. Giving them an extra shift worth of money is the way to say "thank you" to the person covering you, and makes them more likely to accept an extra shift from you again.
